Pietrelcina, in Benevento , is mainly known for being the birthplace of San Pio ( Padre Pio ) and, over the decades, it has become one of the most important centers of religious tourism in Southern Italy.
In addition to the birthplace of San Pio al 27 di Vico Storto Valle in the town you can admire several churches of religious interest, including the Church of Sant’Anna and the Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli . Both buildings were destroyed by an earthquake in 1688 and rebuilt in the following years. In both cases these are places that have a strong link with the religious life of the Saint, it was, in fact, in the Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli that Padre Pio recited his first mass.
